The food in Asia was SO astoundingly good. Like, I didn’t meet a thing I didn’t like. The soups especially were fantastic, and actually quite different from Thailand to Cambodia to Vietnam. Below is just a story of my Soup Journey through Asia:
The main differences are:
- Thai soups are insanely spicy.
- As you can see, the Khmer Cambodian soups are often quite thick, with wonderful rich broths and earthy spices.
- The Vietnamese soups are very light and fresh. The French influence is seen here with the addition of baguettes with the soup.
A common feature of all soups is that they are served with beautiful fresh herbs like mint, Thai basil, and cilantro, and often fresh chilies. My favorite? They were all so different, but the chicken noodle soup in Thailand was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. 🙂 🙂
